Profile

About the producer

Mondul Estate

Established in 1931, the estate has approximately 400 hundred coffee trees under cultivation. Situated 30km from the bustling town of Arusha, Mondul has the remote, romantic feeling of Africa yet the estate reflects the latest modern advancements agriculture. Mondul Coffee Estates vision is to be the top producer of high-quality washed Arabica in Tanzania. As with any grower, the estate faces ace various agronomical, climatic and local challenges, but meet them head on with knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. We visited the estate in 2018 and were mesmerised by the innovation and attention to quality; from the seedling beds to the immaculate washing and mill areas.
Climate change is without doubt their biggest challenge and every effort is made to recycle and have the most efficient processes possible to protect this precious resource. The farm operates projects such as its own dairy herd for fertiliser and milk for its staff.
Another amazing project is that they produce their own organic pesticide made from chillies grown on the farm.
By sharing a border with the enormous Mondul Forest Reserve, their neighbours are the Maasai people of local villages and a range of wildlife that includes buffalo, elephant and leopard. Needless to say, this makes Mondul an exciting place to grow coffee!
