About the producer

Popayán

Popayán is in the Cauca region of Colombia and one of the oldest cities in the country. Sheltered by the Andes Mountains, the area has a temperate, stable climate. Average year-round temperature is 19ºC, perfect for slow maturing of coffee cherry. The area has nutrient rich volcanic soil from the nearby Puracé volcano, ideal for the varietals grown. Most farms are small, under 5 hectares, often run by indigenous communities with deep agricultural traditions. All the coffee is handpicked, trucked to mills where it is wet processed and then sun dried.
